He looks like he's been running. He's sweaty and out of breath and he looks a little bit insane and she knows that it has something to do with that belt that was pulled tight around his arm not an hour ago.

She watches as he alternates between running his hand through his hair and digging his nails into his flesh, ripping through the already bloody scabs and shaking. His entire body stills for a moment and his eyes get real wide and his head cocks to the side and it reminds her of her cat when he used to hear the frogs outside.

She has to make an effort not to jump when he leaps off the bed quickly and makes his way to the curtains near the window. She watches as he presses himself against the wall next to them and tries to look out without touching the curtain. She wonders what his father thinks of it all and then she remembers that she's with them now because one of their people isn't.

"I mean, you know what I mean right they're just, they're just, they're just, they're just everywhere and they think we don't know about them but we do because we're not stupid and we know. We know..."

She has no idea what he's talking about but she's learned to block out pretty much anything he says. They had heroin on her street too and she knows by now that trying to talk to or make sense of anyone wiling to do that to themselves is a waste of time.

"It's the trucks you know, the white ones? The Fords? That's them, whenever you see a white Ford truck it's them and it means they can see you because they have camera's in the license plates and they can control the stop-lights so you can't, you cant, you can't get away but, but I know how to make them change and it's really hard but it, but it works and then you can get away but the trucks are still there you know?"

She watches him walk back towards the bed, watches as he peals off one of the many scabs on his face and then takes a seat, rocking in place and muttering about red lights and remote-timers.

She loves Sucre, really she does, but sometimes... Sometimes she wonders if it's worth this.
